1979: CCES Tunneling Branch was founded on Feb. 27, when the first meeting was convened in Emei Sichuan with 95 participants from 62 units. In the meeting, 37 directors were selected, among whom Liu Shenghua was the president, and Gao Juqing was the secretary general.
 
 　　May 2-10, Secretary general of ITA, Mr. Du Fuhua paid a visit to China, and exchanged opinion about the joining of CCES into ITA. 
 June 16-17, The 5 th ITA general assembly was held in Atlanta, USA, in which CCES was accepted as the member of ITA, and China became the formal member nation of ITA. The president of CCES tunneling council, Mr. Liu Shenghua and other 5 persons attended the general assembly.
 
 1981: June 25 –July 1, the 2 nd general assembly of CCES tunneling branch was held in Shanghai, in which total 159 representatives participated, and Mr. Gao Juqing and Mr. Li Jinghang were by-selected as the vice presidents.
 
 1982: June 5-20, a 10-person delegation of CCES participated at the 8 th ITA General Assembly and the 3 rd Britain Tunneling Symposium.
 
 Nov. 18, CCES tunneling branch council working conference was held in Beijing, in which the issue of holding international tunneling symposium in China was discussed, and Mr. Gao Juqing was recommended as the candidate of ITA executive council.
